My yearning to be a doctor/surgeon was changed after a chance visit to The British School of Osteopathy in the early 70s. I graduated from the BSO in 1976 and went on to practice in central London, Kent, Buckinghamshire and Cambridge over the next 10 years . I returned to BSO as a Clinical tutor from 1977-1982.
I have been working at The Complementary Health Centre in Lee as an Osteopath for 35 years and have also taught Pilates/ Remedial exercise classes in our studio for 26 years. My passion for exercise and prevention of injury has helped patients and non-patients to improve their Posture, strength and flexibility and likelihood of symptoms recurring. An interest in Dance led to me working at The Urdang Ballet School (1986-1988) and at Laban School of Dance (2011-2013) where I was assessing young dancers and where I developed a love of analysis of foot mechanics and how crucial this is to general posture.
I began working within the NHS 6 years ago with The Lewisham Hospital Voice Clinic as part of a small team of ENT Surgeons and Speech therapists . Osteopathic treatment of the neck and larynx can help with vocal dysfunction or following surgery on the larynx. Singers, actors, teachers, anyone with speech or swallowing problems can benefit from laryngeal osteopathy.
Patients come for treatment with a wide variety of Musculo/Skeletal complaints. Acute and chronic joint injuries, degenerative and more acute disc problems and Post Surgery Rehabilitation ie joint Replacement . Being able to assess, diagnose and treat people holistically has and continues to be immensely rewarding .Prevention of further injury via gentle Pilates and postural awareness is also a major part of my treatment.
As I have lived in Blackheath for 35 years I have established good links in the community and with GPs and local consultants. My interests are walking and gardening.
Testimonial:
“I’ve been seeing Nikki for help with various different injuries for 20 years now and she’s helped me hugely. I originally saw Nikki for a long-term back problem which she helped solve permanently and that was life-changing for me. Nikki is highly skilled, professional and sympathetic – I can’t recommend her highly enough.” Duncan – long term patient
