My session with Kathi yesterday 29/10,26 was very good. Kathi is very thorough and is helping me with the sciatic pain I have been experiencing. The centre is very friendly and you are made to feel welcome when you arrive. Would recommend.

I have regularly used the CHC since it opened many years ago. Receptionists are always welcoming and helpful. I have an aromatherapy massage on average every fortnight with Debbie Wright, who is absolutely brilliant. Debbie is very experienced and has successfully treated a variety of ailments for me, ensuring I can still play tennis twice a week. I have also had many successful treatments from Lindsay Mudford for joint problems. Lindsay is always welcoming, very experienced and I always leave with good advice and appropriate exercises.

I’ve had a really good experience at the Complementary Health Centre. I went with shoulder pain and saw Kathi for four sessions, and I’m now completely pain-free. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and I felt very comfortable there. I was particularly impressed that the focus wasn’t just on treating the pain, but on understanding what was causing it and giving me exercises and techniques that I can continue using myself. Four sessions later, the pain has completely gone and I feel much more confident about keeping it that way. I’d definitely recommend the centre and would happily go back if I needed help with anything in the future.

Chris offers an extremely professional and effective sports / deep tissue massage, which is both healing and deeply restorative. Highly reccomend for relieving aches and pains and general relaxation.

Kelly was thoroughly professional, thoughtful in her questions and made helpful suggestions for me to manage my painful arthritic knee. She also directed me to my local pharmacy to confirm her suspicion that a particular medication would not be appropraite for me. Pharmacist agreed.

About me

Hand Therapy Philosophy

For me, hand therapy is about taking every patient on a journey — from unable to able — and ensuring they receive the highest quality care throughout that process. The aim is not just recovery, but restoring confidence, function, and independence.

Professional Background

Clare Corrans is a specialist Hand Therapist who qualified with honours in Occupational Therapy from the University of Stellenbosch in 2000. She has over 15 years’ experience in hand therapy, including specialist clinical work in South Africa.

Her experience spans a broad range of hand and upper limb conditions, including trauma, plastic surgery, rheumatology, elective surgical procedures, and work-related upper limb disorders.

Clare returned to the UK in 2018 to work as a senior clinician at the Regional Hand and Wrist Unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Alongside her NHS role, she worked at Hand Therapy Specialists from 2018 to 2022, providing expert rehabilitation for hand and wrist conditions following trauma and elective surgery, as well as assessment and treatment of chronic conditions in both adults and children.

Her current NHS post is at the Hand and Wrist Specialist Unit at Croydon University Hospital.

Teaching & Specialist Interests

Clare has delivered numerous courses in Hand Therapy and has extensive experience teaching and mentoring fellow therapists. She has a particular interest in work-related hand and wrist injuries and supporting patients in achieving a safe and sustainable return to work.

What Is a Hand Therapist?

A Hand Therapist is a registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist who specialises in the rehabilitation of conditions affecting the hand and upper limb. This role requires advanced postgraduate training and a high level of clinical expertise.

What Does Hand Therapy Involve?
