My approach to healing is as multi faceted as your journey up to this point. I use homeopathy, flower essences, coaching and reiki in combination. I will also refer you to other practitioners in our centre such as osteopaths and counsellors when that will move your journey forward. This gives you a truly holistic approach to well being.
My story:
I found homeopathy in late October 1991, quite honestly in desperation. I had started teaching in September and was heading for a breakdown. I developed bronchitis by the end of September and was on my 2nd course of antibiotics and steroids; nothing was shifting this infection and I was really ill. The doctor had advised me that my lungs were probably quite damaged and I may need to be on some form of steroids for the rest of my life.
I expereinced the classic light bulb moment. I was 22. I could not contemplate merely staving off ill health for the rest of my life. I wanted to be well! Coincidentally (not at all!) on my journey home that day I saw a sign post for my local complementary health centre. I felt I had nothing to lose so I pulled over, went in, blurted out how ill I felt and asked them what I needed to do.
And so began my lifelong journey into complementary therapies; first with homeopathy and subsequently t’ai chi, massage, reiki and coaching.
I learnt that being ill and being well are a journey. I was not suddenly ill; there was a succession of events, even when I hadn’t noticed. I learnt that the place I was in was a culmination of everything I had experienced so far. And so, it made sense that becoming well was also a journey.
Both journeys take us all through multiple environments and events; relationships, where we live, what we eat, major and minor events, our work etc. Some of these we make a conscious choice about and some we don’t. Some we just accept and believe we can’t change. All these have an impact on our health, both positive and negative.
So given that our journeys are all so individual it stands to reason that our healing journey should also be.
How does it work?
We know that when cutting a strong onion, we often experience a runny nose, sore throat and stinging, runny eyes. For a patient who is suffering from the common cold, or even hay fever, with these particular symptoms, a homeopath may prescribe Alium Cepa (the homeopathic remedy made from the red onion). The homeopathic method is to give the patient a minute dose of a substance, which, if taken in its crude form, would produce those symptoms in a healthy person. Because of the minute dosage, no side effects or addiction will result.
Hence it is also safe in infancy or pregnancy, where your doctor has decided that conventional drugs might be dangerous or inadvisable.
The Treatment
A homeopath’s job is to match a remedy to your symptoms as you experience them. He/she will be interested in finding out not only about your physical health but also about your emotional wellbeing. Symptoms are the body’s way of warning that all is not well and attempting to restore balance.
