Studies have found that regular infant massage can improve the quality of interactions between mothers and their babies and reduce the incidence of postnatal depression.
Possible reasons for this include:
💜Massage increases the production of the hormone oxytocin, which as well as being important for bonding between parents and their babies, also induces feelings of calmness and relaxation in both mother and baby
💜Baby massage can help parents learn and respond to their baby’s cues even more effectively, which helps to build confidence
💜Baby massage can sometimes help improve infant sleep, which in turn has a positive impact on parents
💜Joining a baby massage group provides opportunities for parents to socialise and can reduce feelings of isolation
💜Baby massage group classes include opportunities for discussion between parents and a chance to share experiences in a non-judgemental environment.
